Vito “Drumhead” Scavo And Michael Wynn – The Modern Day Odd Couple

On May 5, 2009, I was a fixture at the Scavo trial. Seated right next to me was my dear friend Dan Coglianese Sr., of Proviso Township School District. Tom Breen created some excitement as he focused on the involvement of disgraced Police Chief Fits (yes, there are multiple disgraced police chiefs in this case) and Mr. Zito. Both these men are under a cloud of suspicion stemming from various acts of wrongdoing with little bearing on the Scavo case. To make a long story short, Breen is hoping to make the jury believe that crimes must go unpunished if the whistle blower is less than an angel himself.

No matter what exhaustingly long and utterly inconsequential rambling Mr. Breen spews in the courtroom (I know that he has to justify his fees to his client somehow), I predict that Mr. “Drumhead” will be convicted on a large number of the charges pending against him.

In all fairness, I must report that I did not see the DiFronzo brothers in the courtroom.

When the lunch break began, I was nice enough to invite Defendant Wynn to join Dan Coglianese and me for lunch across the street from the federal building. Over lunch, Mr. Wynn explained that he “has no idea why” he is indicted. In all honesty, after meeting him and getting to know him a little bit, I do not know why he was indicted either. Michael Wynn seems as harmless as a child, the polar opposite of Vito Scavo. Wynn is the Barney Fife of Melrose Park to Scavo’s demonic version of Andy Taylor.

Mr. Wynn told me something over lunch that I found very interesting. He told me that he never reviewed the timecards in question prior to the indictment and that if he had he would have been able to see right away that it was a scam. The timecards are a big focus in the trial.

Later that night I called Dan Coglianese and discussed our thoughts about our lunch date. Dan thought that Scavo might kill Wynn when he discovers that he joined us for lunch. Dan and I have never been accused of having any love for Vito Scavo.
